AZZA debuts the ABYSS case: triple glass enclosure and support for rear-I/O motherboards

AZZA has presented the ABYSS, a mid-tower case in ATX format that bets on glass enclosure: three of its sides are glass panels, not just the side panel always found. The model comes in black and white and is designed, among other things, for motherboards with connectors on the rear face, that format which hides cabling behind the I/O shield.

Glass on Three Sides and Motherboards with Rear Connectors

The feature defining the ABYSS is its wraparound construction. Unlike cases that reserve glass for a single side, here three sides are glassed, so the interior is visible from several angles. The trade-off is always in this type of chassis: less metal surface area and more weight and fragility during transport.

Compatibility with rear-I/O motherboards is the model’s other selling point. It is not an improvement that a user can take advantage of with any motherboard: it requires a board with connectors mounted on the rear face, and the ABYSS declares support for that format alongside conventional cabling solutions.

The Interior of the ABYSS: 420 mm GPU and 165 mm Cooler

External dimensions are 525×228×435 mm, with seven expansion slots. On paper, the case accommodates graphics cards up to 420 mm and CPU coolers up to 165 mm in height, capacity for a total of seven fans, and space for a 360 mm radiator on top. For storage it reserves two 3.5” bays and two other 2.5” bays.

The figure worth looking at twice before buying is the cooler’s 165 mm. It leaves room for large air towers, such as the Peerless Assassin 120H-A Dark de Thermalright, but the tallest models on the market fit tightly or do not fit at all. The 420 mm length for the graphics card, however, comfortably covers the longest high-end GPUs.

Ventilation and ARGB Out of the Box

Out of the box, the ABYSS does not come empty of fans. On the bottom it mounts three LFO-6512DR ARGB PWM units with inverted blades alongside a PVC dust filter, and on the rear installs a fourth fan, an LFO-6512D ARGB PWM, in this case with conventional blades. The PSU cover adds an ARGB lighting strip, in line with the rest of the set.

The front I/O panel offers one USB-C at 5 Gbps, another USB-A also at 5 Gbps and a third USB-A at 480 Mbps.

What Changes for Those Who Will Assemble It

For those who already have in mind a motherboard with rear connectors, the ABYSS enters the list of candidates: it declares that support and, furthermore, solves lighting and part of the airflow out of the box. For the rest, the attraction is the glass showcase, not a thermal improvement: three glass sides do not cool better than a steel sheet, so it is advisable to compensate with fan placement and keep the bottom filter clean.

Before finalizing the purchase, two measurements are paramount: cooler height and graphics card length. The case leaves 165 mm and 420 mm respectively, sufficient margin for most equipment, but not for any air tower.
