The Suunto Race 3S is shaping up to be more than a simple facelift. The leaked product material published by Gadgets & Wearables points to an October 15 launch, a $499 price in the United States and a list of upgrades that is considerably longer than the «S» suffix suggests, especially around battery life.
It is worth pumping the brakes before going further. The outlet itself admits it has not been able to independently confirm that the material is genuine, that some of it has since appeared on Reddit, and that several AI image-detection tools returned conflicting results. It is, therefore, an unverified leak rather than product information confirmed by Suunto.
A trail watch that does not bulk up
The striking part is that the upgrades arrive without changing the dimensions. The material lists the Race 3S at 45 mm in diameter, 11.4 mm thick and 53 grams, exactly the same weight and thickness as the current titanium Race S. There is one slightly confusing detail: some slides mention a 46 mm case, while the direct comparison between the two models puts both at 45 mm.
The display remains a 1.32-inch AMOLED with a 466 x 466 resolution, but peak brightness would jump from 600 to 2,000 nits: the difference between squinting at it in bright sunlight and not having to worry about the glare. Gorilla Glass would give way to sapphire, storage doubles from 32 GB to 64 GB, and 5 ATM water resistance, offline maps and a titanium bezel all stay in the package.
Battery life is the big leap
If one figure moves the needle, it is dual-band GPS in Performance mode: up from 30 to 45 hours. Another of the leaked images adds 55 hours in Endurance mode, while an Ultra mode is visible but with its runtime covered up, so there is no basis for a reliable number.
The material also mentions a silicon-carbon anode battery, a technology Suunto had not been highlighting on its sports watches. These cells offer higher energy density than conventional graphite-anode lithium designs, which would allow more capacity to fit in the same space. That would explain how battery life grows without making the watch thicker or heavier. As always with advertised figures, it is worth waiting to measure them with the always-on display turned on.
Navigation and training
Suunto would position it as a premium trail-running watch, with a more specific focus than some earlier Race models: compact and lightweight, yet rugged. Navigation remains the centrepiece, with dual-band GNSS, free global topographic maps and what the brand calls responsive navigation.
On the training side there is the Trail Race Planner with climb guidance, Training Zone, Energy Sense, AI Coach support and SuuntoPlus integrations with more than 120 sports partners. Mind that last point: some of those features could eventually reach other Suunto watches, so they should not be taken as Race 3S exclusives. Anyone weighing up alternatives can look at how the high end has moved with the Garmin Fenix 8 at €698, a previous-generation sports watch with a different take on price.
Price, date and colours of the Suunto Race 3S
The other new detail is the timing: the material points to October 15, 2026 as the target launch date and $499 as the recommended retail price in the United States. A «target date» means it is not set in stone. It also repeats the three finishes already seen elsewhere: Titanium Orchid as the lead option, alongside Titanium Feather and Titanium Black. The larger Race 3 will arrive at some point, but for now the smaller model is the one coming into focus.
All that said: if you are after a compact trail watch with plenty of battery life and you can wait for the leak to be confirmed, the Race 3S is worth keeping an eye on; if you need a watch now, the current Race S still gets the job done and its price should move once the new one lands.
