Bose has unveiled the Noise Cancelling Wired Earbuds, its first wired earbuds in eleven years, a product that brings back the physical connection without giving up active noise cancellation. The model arrives with a USB-C plug, the brand’s QuietControl technology and a price of $99 in the United States, well below its wireless earbuds with ANC.
Bose’s return to wired earbuds
The announcement lands at a time when wired earbuds and IEMs are gaining ground again among listeners who prioritise low latency, uncompressed audio instead of Bluetooth and not having to rely on a battery. Bose is not abandoning wireless — just days ago it introduced its Ultra Open Earbuds 2 and Sport Open Earbuds — but it is reviving a category it had left untouched for more than a decade.
QuietControl: noise cancellation with three modes
What stands out about wired earbuds is that they include active noise cancellation, and Bose has adapted its QuietControl system to this category. The company uses four microphones — two per earbud — to monitor ambient sound and offers three listening modes switched from the cable itself:
- Quiet mode: the highest reduction of ambient noise.
- Aware mode: lets outside sound in so you stay aware of your surroundings.
- ANC off: conventional wired listening, without active cancellation.
Unlike other wired models, these Bose earbuds draw power directly from the device through USB-C, so they need no battery of their own: the noise-cancelling features work as long as they are plugged in.
Controls on the cable and lossless sound
The 1.28-metre cable includes an in-line remote with buttons to adjust the volume, control playback, manage calls and switch between the cancellation modes. That same module houses a microphone on its rear, positioned to reduce clothing noise and keep your voice clear on calls.
On the audio side, Bose turns to its SoundDesign digital signal processor with support for USB Audio Class 2, which enables lossless playback with a fixed output of 24-bit/48 kHz. Because it is a physical connection, latency drops noticeably, something the brand highlights for video, gaming and content creation.
Price, colours and availability
The Bose Noise Cancelling Wired Earbuds go on sale on 15 October 2026 for $99 in the United States; there is still no confirmed price or date for Europe. They come in three finishes: black with blue accents, white smoke with lime-green accents and the limited Dewdrop Mint edition, a nostalgic nod.
The package includes silicone eartips in three sizes (S, M and L) and stability bands in two sizes, which can be combined for a better fit, plus a zip carry case. The whole set carries an IPX4 rating against splashes and sweat.
What changes for the reader
Bose’s bet is interesting because it breaks the idea that a cable and noise cancellation are incompatible: anyone who wants the reliability of a physical connection no longer has to give up the silence of ANC. At $99, the price also sits far from the company’s premium wireless earbuds.
The European price remains to be seen, and whether the model delivers on sound quality, but the move fits a broader trend in which manufacturers are bringing back wired audio while continuing to push wireless platforms with advanced noise cancellation.
