DJI has released new Mavic Air 2 and Air 2S firmware with a changelog limited to bug fixes. Both official notes are dated October 20, 2026: aircraft firmware moves to v01.01.18.00 on Mavic Air 2 and v02.04.28.00 on Air 2S. DroneDJ’s coverage on October 21 does not change the date of those releases.

Mavic Air 2 and Air 2S receive different versions

For Mavic Air 2, DJI lists aircraft firmware v01.01.18.00, RC-N1 firmware v04.11.05.00 and DJI Smart Controller firmware v01.01.00.76. DJI Fly is listed as v1.21.16 on both iOS and Android.

The official Air 2S note identifies aircraft firmware as v02.04.28.00. For that model, RC-N1 is listed with v04.12.02.00, DJI RC with v01.03.2600, RC Pro with v03.02.0900 and Smart Controller with v01.01.00.76. DJI Fly is again v1.21.16 on both mobile systems.

The difference between the RC-N1 versions deserves attention: there is no single shared version number for both setups. When checking an update, read the document for the specific model rather than automatically transferring the other drone’s table.

DJI does not identify the bugs it fixed

Both documents say only that some bugs have been fixed. They do not detail camera, transmission or navigation faults, or announce new recording modes. Nor do they justify attributing a specific battery-life or safety improvement to the updates.

The update documents software maintenance for these devices. That is different from demonstrating a change in flight behavior or announcing a support commitment of a particular duration. We have not flight-tested this firmware.

What to check before updating

The useful step for an owner is to check the aircraft model, the controller used and the corresponding versions in the official documentation. If installation fails, DJI says to restart the aircraft, controller and DJI Fly or the DJI Assistant 2 program specified for that model before trying again.

For Mavic Air 2, the note refers to DJI Assistant 2 for Mavic; for Air 2S, to DJI Assistant 2 (Consumer Drones Series). These are the manufacturer’s recovery instructions, not a reason to mix packages. The development is limited: there is new firmware, but no new flight feature described in the changelog.
